Two San Diego Crashes–on I-5 Freeway and I-8 Freeway–Kill Pedestrians

SAN DIEGO, CA (September 10, 2021) – Two crashes early in the morning on Thursday on two San Diego freeways killed pedestrians. In each of the crashes–one of which occurred in Mission Valley and another in Carmel Valley–a man was struck and killed.
On I-5 Freeway close to State Route 56, the first crash happened. The time was roughly 12:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The vehicle involved in the crash has not been described. It is not clear from reports where the person had been walking when he was struck.
Responders pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the crash site. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
Some five hours later, at roughly a little after 5:00 a.m., a vehicle struck a pedestrian on the I-8 Freeway near I-5. The vehicle involved in the second crash has not been described.
It is also not known from reports exactly where the pedestrian had been walking when the second crash occurred.
Responders pronounced the person deceased at the scene of the crash. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
The identities of the drivers involved in the crashes have also not been reported.
Investigators are gathering information about each crash to understand the circumstances.
