Poway Three-vehicle Crash on State Route 67 Kills Man, Injures Others

POWAY, CA (October 11, 2021) – Early in the afternoon on Friday near Poway, a crash involving three vehicles killed a man and injured two other people. The October 8 crash occurred on State Route 67 at Lazy Acres Drive.
The time was roughly a little after 1:00 p.m., according to Travis Garrow. Garrow is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
A vehicle–described as a Honda Accord–had been traveling on State Route 67 and heading north. In an area near Scripps Poway Parkway, the driver of the Honda attempted to pass a semi truck, reports say.
A vehicle–described as a Toyota Highlander–had been going southbound on State Route 67. According to Garrow, in a report, the person driving the Honda collided with the semi truck, for reasons that are not known.
The Honda Accord went spinning and collided with the Toyota.
All three vehicles–the Honda, the Toyota, and the semi truck–plunged off the road and down a slope.
Responders arrived and transported the driver of the Honda by airlift to Palomar Medical Center located in Escondido. He was pronounced deceased in the hospital.
He was identified only as a resident of Lakeside, 23 years hold. His name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Toyota suffered injuries that were described as major. She was identified only as a resident of Lakeside, 44 years old.
The passenger traveling with her suffered injuries that were described as moderate. She was identified only as 19 years old. Responders transported both of them to Palomar Medical Center.
The person who had been driving the truck was not hurt in the crash, according to reports. The person has not been identified in reports.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
