Long Beach Trash Truck Hits and Kills Man

LONG BEACH, CA (January 20, 2022) – Early in the afternoon on Tuesday in Long Beach, a trash truck struck and killed a man. The January 18 crash occurred in the vicinity of Anaheim Street and Del Rey Court, in an alley.

The time was roughly a little after 1:00 p.m., Long Beach Police said.

Reports say the trash truck–owned by a private company–is believed by investigators to have been backing when it struck the victim.

According to authorities, the person who was struck was believed to have been lying down on the ground when the trash truck hit him.

Responders pronounced him deceased at the crash site.

The victim was identified only as 57 years old. His name has not been reported.

The person who was driving the truck stayed at the crash site and called for help. His identity has not been reported.

Investigators are continuing work on the crash. If anyone has information about the crash, the person can contact Kelsey Myers or Shawn Loughlin, both of whom are detectives.
