Driver is Struck and Killed when He Exits His Crashed Vehicle on I-5 in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA (September 21, 2021) – On Sunday night in San Diego, a driver who exited his crashed vehicle on I-5 was struck and killed by a passing vehicle. The September 19 crash occurred in the area of Old Town.
The time was roughly 9:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver had been traveling on I-8 eastbound to I-5 southbound when, for reasons that are not known, the vehicle–described as a pick up truck–went out of his control.
The truck rolled over and landed upright, coming to a stop on I-5 southbound in the number two lane. The man got out of the pickup and climbed over the center divider to the northbound side of the freeway.
A vehicle–described as an Acura sedan–which had been traveling north on I-5, struck him. The man died in the crash.
He was a resident of Bonita, 26 years old. His name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Acura stayed at the crash site and cooperated with investigators. He was identified only as a resident of La Jolla, 31 years old. His name has also not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work to examine the incident to understand its causes.
