Drag Race in Otay Mesa area of San Diego Kills Bystander

SAN DIEGO, CA (November 1, 2021) – Early in the morning on Sunday in San Diego, a drag race driver struck and killed a bystander. The October 31 crash occurred in the area of Otay Mesa, on Kern Street in the 8800 block.
The time was roughly 6:00 a.m., according to Sarah Foster. Foster is an officer with San Diego Police.
Reports say two drivers had been drag racing. One of the vehicles went out of the driver’s control, and traveled onto the sidewalk.
The vehicle hit a person who had been standing on the sidewalk and watching the drag race.
The victim died at the crash site. His identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Neither of the drivers has been identified in reports. The vehicles have not been described.
Investigators are working to collect information about the crash.
