Box Truck Hits and Kills Marine Helping Victims of Oceanside Crash on I-5

OCEANSIDE, CA (December 7, 2021) – Early in the morning on Monday in Oceanside, a marine who was helping victims of a crash on I-5 was struck and killed by a box truck. The December 6 crash occurred near Camp Pendleton.
The time was roughly 3:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to authorities, a vehicle–described as an SUV–when out of the driver’s control and crashed on I-5. The vehicle was abandoned in the roadway without its lights on, reports say.
Reports say the Marine worked to help the couple who had been traveling in the SUV. While he was helping them, a box truck smashed into the SUV.
The Marine was killed in the crash. He was identified only as 20 years old. His name has not been reported.
Responders transported the people who had been traveling in the SUV to the hospital for treatment. Their identities have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the box truck was identified only as 47 years old. His name has also not been reported. It is not known if he was hurt in the crash.
Investigators are working on the details of the incident.
