Hit-and-run Driver Strikes and Kills Woman in Leimert Park Area of South Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 11, 2021) – Early in the morning on Monday in South Los Angeles, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a woman. The August 9 crash occurred in the neighborhood of Leimert Park, where Crenshaw Boulevard and 39th Street are located.
The time was roughly 3:00 a.m., Los Angeles Police said.
The victim was in the street, according to police, and may have been trying to help a cat that was hurt when the vehicle struck and killed her.
The driver did not stay at the crash site, according to reports.
Responders arrived and found the victim was deceased at the crash site. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
Responders also found the body of a cat at the crash site.
According to reports, police said the driver involved in the incident surrendered to authorities at a later time. The identity of the driver has not been reported.
Investigators are working to collect information and details regarding the crash.
