Leticia Gutierrez de Ordaz Identified as Woman Killed in San Diego Crash on I-5

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 15, 2022) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Leticia Gutierrez de Ordaz as the woman who was killed in a crash on I-5 on Tuesday. The April 12 crash occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, close to Coronado Avenue in the Nestor area.
The time was roughly 11:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
According to authorities, Gutierrez de Ordaz was a passenger in a pickup truck that her husband was driving. Authorities allege Gutierrez de Ordaz’s husband executed a quick lane change and veered toward an exit off the freeway.
As the pickup truck moved abruptly across the freeway lanes, reports say, an oncoming vehicle–described as a Volkswagen Jetta–hit the pickup truck.
The truck overturned and rolled multiple times, authorities said, ejecting Gutierrez de Ordaz from the vehicle. Responders transported her to the hospital.
She was pronounced deceased in the hospital. Gutierrez de Ordaz was 64 years old.
The types of injuries her husband suffered have not been reported.
The Volkswagen’s driver–identified only as a woman–was also hurt; her injuries have also not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
