Bakersfield Hit-and-run Crash on Sherwood Avenue Kills Pedestrian

BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 6, 2022) – Late at night on Saturday in Bakersfield, a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash. The April 2 crash occurred on Sherwood Avenue near Garzoli Avenue.
The time was roughly 10:45 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
A vehicle–described as a GMC Sierra–had been traveling on Sherwood Avenue and going westbound. A pedestrian–who was not within a crosswalk–walked into the roadway, and the vehicle struck him.
The driver did not stay at the crash site, but left the scene.
Responders pronounced the victim deceased at the crash site. The person was identified only as 29 years old. The name, gender, and city of residence of the victim have not been reported.
Authorities said the suspect driver later returned to the scene of the incident. The driver was identified as a boy, 17 years old. His name and city of residence have also not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash. If anyone has information about the incident, the person can call the Bakersfield area office of the California Highway Patrol.
