Canyon Springs Crash on 215 Freeway Kills One; Adults and Children Injured

CANYON SPRINGS, CA (November 12, 2021) – Early in the morning on Thursday in Riverside County, a crash on the 215 Freeway killed one person. A number of adults and children were injured in the November 11 crash, which occurred in the area of Canyon Springs.
The time was roughly 7:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
As many as three vehicles may have been involved in the crash in the southbound lanes of the freeway close to Box Springs Road.
A vehicle–described as an Enterprise moving truck–and a truck–described as a Ford–collided. A vehicle–described as an SUV–struck a pillar of the freeway.
No details have been reported on how the crash occurred.
Responders arrived and found one person had died at the crash site. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Responders worked to free five people who were trapped in wrecked vehicles. According to Bruce Vanderhorst–who is a battalion chief with Riverside Fire–several of the injured patients who were transported by responders to hospitals were children.
The California Highway Patrol said at least one of the children had a head injury.
A number of patients suffered injuries that were described as critical, authorities said.
None of the people involved in the crash have been identified. Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
