NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA (June 2, 2022) \u2013<\/strong> Late at night on Tuesday in North Hollywood, a pedestrian was struck and killed on the 170 Freeway. The May 31 crash occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, close to where Victory Boulevard is located.<\/p>\n

The time was roughly 10:30 p.m., Los Angeles Police said.<\/p>\n

According to authorities, the driver–who is the director of the Crisis Response Team for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti–had been traveling on the freeway in a vehicle owned by the city when the vehicle hit the pedestrian.<\/p>\n

The pedestrian was killed in the crash. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.<\/p>\n

Reports do not say why the person was walking on the freeway.<\/p>\n

The driver remained at the crash site, and he later went to the hospital. The injuries he suffered have not been reported.<\/p>\n

The driver was identified as Joseph Avalos.<\/p>\n

Investigators are working to collect information to understand the crash and its circumstances.<\/p>\n
